Lydia Barber - National Board Certified
Lydia Barber graduated with a Bachelors degree in Elementary Education from Louisiana State University in 1975. She is certified in the areas of Elementary, Kindergarten, Special Education and Nursery School. In 2001, Lydia became a Certified Academic Language Therapist with the International Dyslexia Association and has privately provided instruction for dyslexic individuals after school since that time. Lydia has been teaching since 1975 and has experience in teaching grades two through Early Childhood and Special Education classes. She has been teaching second grade At South Highlands since 2002. Lydia was selected as the South Highlands Teacher of the Year for the school year 2007-2008. Lydia has been married to Ronnie since 1976. She has two grown children that are alumni of South Highlands, Rebecca and Jeb.

Elizabeth Light
Elizabeth Light graduated with a Bachelors Degree in Elementary Education from Centenary College in 1988. Elizabeth has taught in both private and public schools in Caddo Parish. She is certified to teach first through fifth grade, and has concentrated on second and third grades in her teaching experience. Elizabeth moved to South Highlands Elementary Magnet in 2006 and is presently teaching second grade. She enjoys being actively involved with her students, often cheering them on a ballgames or attending theater productions they take part in. Elizabeth has been a past member of the Northwest Louisiana Reading Council. Throughout her career she has served as a PTA Faculty Board member, Curriculum Development Council member, Talent Show Coordinator, and a School Spelling Bee Judge. Elizabeth is married to husband Creighton and is the mother of two chlldren, Matthew and Madelyn.

Julia Smith - National Board Certified
Julia Smith graduated in 1988 with a Bachelors degree in Elementary Education from LSUS. She started her teaching career at Barret Elementary where she also served as the 504 designee and Direct Instruction Facilitator. Julia then transferred to South Highlands where she is teaching Second Grade. She has also served for many years as a mentor for new teachers in LaTAAP. Over the years she has obtained many grants for activities to improve instruction in her classroom. She is a member of ADK, a teaching sorority. Julia and her husband Jay have one daughter. Julia enjoys cooking and reading

Cindy Lott
Cindy Lott is a Gateway teacher at South Highlands Magnet School. She is married to Greg and has 2 children, Henry Cole and Mary Helen. Cindy graduated from Louisiana Tech University in 1993 and went on to get her masters in education at University of Monroe. She taught first grade in the Ouachita Parish Schools for 3 years before she moved to Shreveport. Cindy taught Kindergarten at South Highlands for 4 years and left for a few years to be a mom to her 2 kids. She returned to South Highlands in 2007 and is teaching Gateway K-2nd grade. Cindy enjoys being a mom and teaching her sweet students. She enjoys reading and playing with her two dogs Buzz and Sally
